 Authentication failure issues

  • There is a 120 seconds limit to enter the OTP token, if the time limit is exceeded gives the message of authentication failed and to try again.
  • When the wrong credentials are given(either kerberos password or OTP token) couple of times, the SDCC account will get locked out and in this case NX will give "Authentication Failed, please try again" message. Wait few minutes for the account to automatically unlock and then try to login to the NX session.

Disk quota exceeded Error

This happens when the user's home directory exceeds the maximum quota limit and the NX session does not open. To resolve this issue:

  • For the nxterm servers on the BNL Science Zone -  login to the gateway server ssh.sdcc.bnl.gov and then to a internal interactive node, check quota and delete any files/directories not needed.
  • For the nxcampus01 server on the BNL Campus Zone -  login to the campus gateway server cssh.sdcc.bnl.gov and then to the nxcampus01 node, check quota and delete any files/directories not needed.

Scrollback limit in Konsole setting

Set scrollback limit to a fixed size in the konsole setting in NX desktop sessions. Otherwise setting the scrollback limit to Unlimited mode will cause space issues.

Troubleshooting connection issues

  • Remove problematic session and cached files by clearing out or deleting your local ~/.nx/ directory. If connection issues persist, try also removing these files on the target host (nxcampus01 and/or nxterm0*n*). Also try removing the .nx/ directory in your home directory by logging into the gateway server ssh.sdcc.bnl.gov and then into a internal interactive node.
  • Remove custom profile and environment variables on the target host that may cause errors or interfere with your session.
  • Remove the ~/.Xauthority file from the target host.
  • Check for possible X server session errors in the  ~/.xsession-errors log file on the target host.

Copy/Paste functionality in NX web browser session

In the NX web browser sessions, the clipboard needs to be enabled. This is an user interface to copy/paste from the local system to the NX session and vice versa.
