The SDCC hosts a CernVM-FS (CVMFS) Stratum Zero service for hosting and publishing experiment software. Note that in order to make use of this service, you must first gain approval from your experiment liaison, who will communicate to the SDCC that your account should be enabled for writing to your CVMFS repository.

Two write hosts, cvmfswrite0{1,2}.sdcc.bnl.gov, have been enabled with special partitions and mechanisms to allow authorized experiment members to write into their respective repositories. To use this service:

  1. Log into either of the above mentioned hosts, and move to the appropriate directory for your experiment:
    /cvmfs/{experiment}.sdcc.bnl.gov
  2. Write your data into this directory according to your experiment guidelines. Keep in mind that CVMFS works best with small files, in particular software source files, and is not optimized for distributing large binaries or containers.
  3. To indicate that your changes are complete and should be published, create or touch a new, empty file named CVMFSRELEASE within the upper-most directory in which you have made your changes.
If this new file exists within the first three levels of your repository, its presence will indicate to the publishing system, which runs periodically, that your repository contains changes that should be recorded and published as a new revision.
After a successful publication, the CVMFSRELEASE flag file will be removed, and the new revision will be made available for distribution to clients, which will require the repository's public signing key for mounting.

Please use our ticketing system to report any issues, ask questions, or make suggestions about this service.
