The RCF runs backups on selected Network File System (NFS) and Andrew File System (AFS) file systems on a nightly basis. These backups are for site disaster recovery only. Data restoration is available for approved requests only. If restoration is required, users should contact their Experiment Liaison to see if they meet the requirements for a special restoration request.

Note: In general, files are retrievable within 30 days of loss.

AFS

The rhic.bnl.gov and usatlas.bnl.gov AFS cells are backed up daily.

Mail

The mail servers rcf.rhic.bnl.gov and mail.usatlas.bnl.gov are backed up daily.

NFS

Select NFS file systems are backed up regularly:

  • Home directories have seven (7) days of snapshots in the .snapshot directory. Home directories and a few other NFS filesystems have 30 days of backups.
  • There are no snapshots/backups of GPFS/Lustre filesystems, except for /hpcgpfs01.
  • Directories in home directories, which are symlinks and point to GPFS/Lustre area, do not have backups.
