There has been discussion on the migration of HPSS going fromation present
setup migrating to better hardware
(3* speed) integrated with fibrechannel, and newer software. An initial plan
was made in July, but at this time the
conversion is severaly behind schedule (IMO) in part due to additional
changes and un-expected needs for additional hardware. The overall aim is to
have this ready and tested by the startup of the run mid-December. The
overall benifit from our (as well as other experiments point of view) is the
newer tape drives that hold 3 times as much data as well
as higher data rate.The uncertainties are that it took ~ 1 year to get all
the bugs out of the software a disturbing thought
for a rapidly approacning run. There will be ongoing discussions with RCF in
the near term on implemantation and testing of the system. For your
information I enclosed presentations made today in a 1.5 hours long meeting
by RCF.
