The RCF HPSS system is going to be upgraded, in large part due to the purchase of new faster drives that should
be available for this years run. This also makes necessary an upgarde of the HPSS software. The experiments
had raised concerns about this upgrade since it took over an year to get the last software upgrade stable
It had been agreed upon to make extensive test of the system with 'full' data sinking and reconstruction both before
and after the upgrades.
- The first pre-upgrade test will take place Monday and Tuesday (~48 hours or is it only 24?). Kris has kindly agreed to be
in charge of this effort from our part. This does of course NOT preempt anyone from running real reconstruction -
if you wish to do so please inform Kris so the 'pseudo jobs' will have lower priority in crs.
- This test was originally scheduled for last week but was delayed due to RCF.
The overall schedule (brief) for the upgrades is in the messages from Riordan included. If there are specific requests
in regard to the schedule please contact me and Kris.

The schedule for the HPSS 4.2->4.5 upgrade is the following:
Aug.5 - 25 Upgrade of the test system and testing
Machines include a core server, a mover
machine and a farm control system
Aug 12-14 Regression testing of production HPSS system
(Ver.4.2) (MDC as discussed)
Aug 26-Sept 15 Upgrade of production system and regression testing.
Machines include current core server, mover
machines (all 7) and farm control system
Date of regression test(s) to be determined
with experiments, but hopefully in the 2nd week of Sept.
