Hello. All pii machines will be upgraded to RH7.3 in the "NEXT
WEEK" during the meeting. Particularly, pii3 (home) will be down at
least about 2 hrs sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday. The more detail of
update time will be announced later. The idea is that this is the
last update until the next data run is over. Also, gcc version 3.0.4 will
be installed in /usr/local/bin directory since we do not want to use gcc
2.96 (redhat special version). I have tested ROOT and BRAT under gcc
3.0.4 and it seems that it works fine. The BRAG, BROP and anything else
needs to be tested (or updated to work under this condition.) gcc 3.0.4
is also available in rcas by gcc3. Therefore, it should not be a big
problem. About /afs/rhic/i386_redhat72, I hope someone makes gcc3.0.4
version of all necessary programs and their libraries. If you insist to
use gcc 2.96 in pii, they are available in /usr/bin. (Also, if you want to
use gcc 2.91, it is still available as "egcs and egcs++") Therefore, people
should check their "PATH" environmental settings and
"LD_LIBRARY_PATH" carefully. (Check by "which gcc" and/or "gcc
--version" as well as "env") Also, during the update, ROOT will be
probably installed in /usr/local/root_version/ directory, but you don't
need to use it since ROOT should be available from afs.

If you have any comments, you should say it now.

    	Hiro
