GBRAHMS update. 12/291998

In preparation for the next set of data generation for MDC-II many changes have
been made to the BRAHMS Geant description, GBRAHMS. The changes are significant,
the output data structures have been changed. Some additional changes may still
occur before the end of the year. The release was done today. You can find more
on the changes in the brahms web pages.
http://www.rcf..bnl.gov/export1/brahms/WWW/private/computing/gbrahms/gbrahms.html

On the RCF machines it is presently only setup for the Linux. A standard
executable is in the directory /afs/rhic/brahms/BRAHMS_REL/geant/VER_1.5/ which
contain a checked out version and with an executable in the sub directory
bin/linux/gbrahms.

A brief summary of the changes
- The description of T1, T2 and TPC2 has been finalized. The description also
allows for a subset of pad-rows to be active i.e. used to record hits.
- Final geometry for H1 and H2 including supporting frame and PMT's has been
incorporated.
- The magnet parameters, and field values, including the effective edge can be
written to an ascii file using the new command geom/save <magnet> <file>.
- A prototype type TOFW build by multiple identical panels has been added as
option.
- The gbr2c.f routine used to generate the standard geant output used in BRAT
has been modified to accommodate internal changes. The output has been very much
reduced by only writing sub-events with valid hits. The header also has
information on the vertex position, and the impact parameter. The Brat
BrGeantInput input class as well as the utility program dumpcdat is changed
accordingly.

Some additional internal details that may be of interest to the user.

Tofw
The setup can now accommodate two kinds of panels (paneltype) consisting of
several identical panels. The panels are named TFP1 and TFP2. Each panel
consists of a number of scintillator slats (width, depth, height) positioned by
a given pitch to allow for gaps due to wrapping material. The positioning of a
panel is determined by two distance from the nominal detector origin (middle of
D5/M0) and angle relative to the MRS centerline.
e.g. to change the position of a single panel one can use.
set_param tofw pn1dis 250.
Set_param tofw pn1ang 12.0
Please notice there are no internal check whether this geometry makes good sense
i.e. overlapping panels, too large dead space etc.

TPCs
The active rows are determined from an integer where each bit signify on/off.
The values can be set like.
Set_param t1 actrows <value>
The default values are taken from the design document from July 97

Gbr2c.f
The run number as set by a command
RUNG <run> <ievt>
Will now be saved properly by gbr2c.f
