====== Acting Scheduling Physicist -YIP (ie. A-SPY) news channel ========

Christoph Montag should be back to duty on Monday (Apr. 25, 2005). Just a few more
words before signing off ...

***********************************************************************************************

(1) Beam Experiment next Thursday

In my last email, I forgot to mention that the first Beam Experiment during the pp run
will be on this coming Thursday (Apr. 28, 2005). The future plan (which day of the week)
for the Beam Experiment is still un-decided.

(2) What else to say ?

Without being made use of too much in the past 6 days, I don't really have things to entertain you :-(

The only thing that may be worth mentioning is perhaps about the optimization around the beam
polarization measurements which happen every 2 hour during a store. The typical RHIC store length
is ~8 hours currently, which is much shorter than Tevatron's typical store length of more than 24 hours
(which is in the mode of proton --- anti-proton collisions) at Fermilab.

Experiments don't like taking data during the short period of polarization measurement.
They want to turn off their detectors just before the measurement and then turn on immediately
after the measurement. The current scheme is to announce (on TV/BERT) the time for the
polarization measurement in advance (~15 minutes) so that the experiments and the Jet Target
group (which by chance uses the same instrument as the polarization measurement) would know
when to turn off their detectors. The Main Control Room would need to make the polarization
measurement punctually. If not, the experiments would lose their valuable data-taking time since
their detectors are off and they are waiting for the polarization measurement to happen and end.
Phone calls are intentionally avoided in this scheme.

Hopefully, this would work like "clockwork".

======= ====== ======= ======= ====== ======= ======= ====== =======

Bye now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disclaimer: Whatever is being said here is not always 100% accurate
though I try my best to avoid being 100% inaccurate :-)
