As you may recall, we were scheduled to have two mini-symposiums; one on d-Au physics at RHIC and one on Flow at RHIC. It turns out that the number of submissions for both mini-symposiums was a factor of two greater than the available time slots for both! So Ulrich Heinz and I argued to create additional session and we got them. Thus, we will have two mini-symposiums each. Two on d-Au physics and two on flow. We will also have five other general sessions: Correlations and Fluctuations, Charm and Leptons, p-p physics at RHIC, Jets, and finally Hadrons and Photons. All of these sessions are full (meaning 14 or 15 speakers in each general session and 12 or 13 speakers in each mini-symposium). The mini-symposiums have a long talk at the beginning and so we have asked Miklos, Jamal Jillian-Marian, Shuryak, and Urs Wiederman to give these talks. If you do the math, you will discover that 130 abstracts were submitted to the meeting. This is up from 86 at the last DNP fall meeting, and it is over 1/3 of total for this years Fall meeting. The DNP senior management, represented by Don Geesaman and Ben Gibson, really sat up and took notice and I'm pleased to report that they were pleased. So with all this success, I would like to encourage you to encourage your people to attend the fall DNP meeting in Tucson. I would also like to encourage you to encourage your people to join the APS and the DNP. Many of our colleagues have the right to submit abstracts to the DNP meetings based on their membership in the JPS or the European societies, but the right to vote depends on membership in the APS. Currently there are only two RHIC flavored people on the DNP program committee (out of approximately 20 members) and so we really need more people on the committee to help organize the large number of sessions that our community is generating. The best way to achieve this goal is to have a larger membership in the DNP, to vote, and from this good things will follow; including an increased voice in the long range plan. Sincerely, Jim
