Hello. RCF mail server will be upgraded today 5PM. This seemed to be a major update and requires you to turn off your e-mail program (I do not know why.) Anyhow, read a mail if you use rcf e-mail service. Hiro
attached mail follows:
The RCF is scheduling 5:00PM EDT Wednesday May 28 for the first phase of a two phase upgrade of the RCF mail server infrastructure. In preparation for the upgrade, it is recommended that all RCF email users stop all IMAP and POP clients that access email on the system. In this first phase, substantial changes will be made to the IMAP server (rcf.rhic.bnl.gov). The simpler component of this upgrade involves the upgrades of the hardware to faster CPUs and disks. The more complex component of the upgrade involves conversion of all mail on the system from a flat file format to a record based format. These two changes, particularly the format change are expected to dramatically increase the responsiveness of the system. Due to the nature of the upgrade, IMAP service may be unavailable for several hours. The second phase of the upgrade, which will occur sometime in the very near future, involves the separation of the web interface from the IMAP server. We are waiting for holes in the BNL firewall to be made. As soon as this is done, the new webmail server will be put into production. Contact me about any questions or concerns about this phase of the upgrade. Shigeki Misawa (misawa@bnl.gov) -- This message forwarded from the RCF announcements page.
