Dear Friends, The RHIC plan for the remaining p+p running communicated send out Flemming earlier today is certianly not encouraging. I count a maximum of 2.5+ 2.75 days that have the potential to be usable - if beam is delivered which any reasonable duty cycle. At the rate things are going now, prospects are bleak. In that situation we should at least decide on our priorities - as it is becoming quite clear that we will not have time, even in the best of cases, to run two high pt settings (e.g. 4 deg and 12 deg). I personally favor the 12 degree high pt running. I see this as a very important reference measurement for the Au+Au high pt suppresion data, of last year, and hopefully of next year. Furthermore there are (at least) 2 BRAHMS Ph. D. students that need this data for their theses. Opinions? cheers JJ ____________________________________________________________ Jens Jørgen Gaardhøje, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Sc. Niels Bohr Institute, Blegdamsvej 17, 2100 Copenhagen, Denmark. There has been disucsions in the RHIC spin group, i.e., in essence the two big exp + CA-D + pp2pp , even though we have a small say about the utilization of the remaining ~10 days of the run. The plan as stands now given below. It is quite aggressive plan that aims primarely as I see it to commision and having a long-shot of an A-LL measurement (delta-G) for STAR. It should be recalled that the primary reason for not cutting the pp run short was to get polarization measurements. The summary plan is (but of course it can also be changed) The 'planned schedule is 5/6,5/7,5/8 (until 19:00) Physcis runnning with present config. 5/8 19:00- 5/9 8:00 Beam experiment 5/9 (Friday) 8 hour access (star spin-rotator work + ice-ball chasing) 5/9-5/11 morning/midday spin rotator commisioning - No collisions (5-6 shifts) 5/11-5/14 morning - physics running 5/14-5/16 pp2pp setup+running regards Flemming ------------------------------------------------------ Flemming Videbaek Physics Department Brookhaven National Laboratory tlf: 631-344-4106 fax 631-344-1334 e-mail: videbaek@bnl.gov
