-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Successful tune feedback on the ramp in Blue From: Scheduling Physicist <schedphy@mail.pbn.bnl.gov> For Your information on progress at RHIC I send a couple of recent messages from the scheduling (acting) physicist. " Tuesday 24 ~ 1 pm) Hi there, (well, I didn't promise you would get no more messages before Xmas, did I?) ... we're getting closer! Last night we had 3 successful ramps in the blue ring where tune feedback was on and kept tunes constant to a level of 10^03 :). Great job! Thanks to everybody who was involved (Pete Cameron and his team, Karl Schultheiss and many more)! Yellow tune feedback is still work in progress. However, we have transmission efficiencies routinely above 80% and kept a few stores with about 1*10^9 (Au) and 1*10^11 (d) total beam current (6 bunches) for 1-2 hours. Collision rates in the order of 100 Hz were recorded in PHOBOS, PHENIX and BRAHMS. We are close to ramping with 53x53 bunches (maintaining a bigger dump gap for now) and plan on doing that later today. I'll keep you posted. Enough for now, christmas is getting very close too ;). Enjoy it! Angelika -- Flemming Videbaek Brookhavne National Laboratory Physics Department tlf 631-344-4106 fax 631-344-1334 e-mail: videbaek@bnl.gov
