    Subject: Update

    Hi all,
    only 8 more days ...
Beam studies yesterday basically didn't happen. Instead we could watch Tandem switch from MP7 to MP6 and back to MP7. Tandem failure took most parts of the day until about 20:00. At 20:45 we had the first RHIC store in (with fairly high luminosity, PHENIX had about 2.5 * 10^26 cm^-2 s^-1 after one hour into the store :) ). The night was quite productive including this morning until about 13:30. After some problems in the switching process from pp to Au (due to Linac and Tandem problems) we tested the 3m beta* injection lattice for the pp run. It was a success! The weekend we'll spend on production. Below a list with scheduled activities between now and the end of the Au-run:

    date time activity
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Mo Nov. 19 06:00 12 h Beam Experiments (confirmed)
Su Nov. 25 06:00 24 h of collisions at injection energy in RHIC (22 GeV run)
Mo Nov. 26 06:00 RHIC & AGS rings open up, LIPA power outage for booster power supply
Mo Nov. 26 ? AGS closure, resume polarized protons in booster/AGS
Th Nov. 29 14:00 RHIC ring closure, begin operation with protons

This list can also be found on the website http://www.agsrhichome.bnl.gov/AP/RHIC2001/SchedPhys/.

The Polarized Proton crew could successfully measure polarisation at AGS injection energies using the fishline target. Polarisation turns out to be 65-70%, consistent with the source :). Measurements at higher enegies in the AGS are in progress.

I'll be at CERN for 4 days next week (from tomorrow evening until Thanksgiving). Todd will act as a scheduling physicist during my absence starting tonight and carry the pager :) :). I'll be back next friday. Have a nice (and productive) weekend,
