I will like to forward to you a call for future exp planning workshop from
    T.Halman and T.Ludlam.
I will solicit input from you which I can bring forward in regard to all
    aspects of this.

Subject: Future RHIC Research and Development Workshop

    > Dear Colleagues,
    >
    > One conclusion from the recent Long Range Plan excercise
    > is that it is time to begin considering what upgrade detectors
    > and enhanced instrumentation will be needed for the next
    > phase of experimentation at RHIC. An important factor in this
    > consideration is the luminosity of RHIC, which is expected to
    > increase, opening new possibilities for the study of rare probes.
    >
    > As a means to begin the process by which the RHIC community, BNL
    > management, and the funding agencies will work together to identify
    > and prioritize the upgrade detectors and associated R&D important for
    > the future, we are initiating plans for a "RHIC Research and
    > Development Workshop", to be held in the fall. The meeting
    > is expected to be a 2 day workshop, tentatively scheduled for
    > the first week of October.
    >
    > The primary focus of the meeting will be discussion of detectors
    > and detector technology of interest for the future of RHIC, although
    > some presentation concerning the development of the RHIC accelerator
    > is anticipated to set the context for the workshop. The scope of
    > the workshop is envisioned to encompass the heavy ion and polarized
    > proton programs at RHIC, as well as detector R&D related to a possible
    > future electron-ion collider. The meeting is also intended to be
    > international in character with participation by representatives of
    > the LHC detectors as well.
    >
    > The main point of the workshop will be to provide a forum for
    > discussing avenues of detector development that will be required
    > over the next several years to extend the physics reach of the
    > present RHIC detectors and to exploit the proposed upgrades in
    > machine capability. It is expected that this workshop will serve
    > to refine the agenda for detector development that was broadly
    > outlined during the Long Range Plan workshops, and that it will
    > lay the goundwork for specific proposals for R&D support in the
    > near future.
    >
    > We would like to solicit your feedback regarding the thrust and the
    > timing of this workshop, as well as any suggestions you would like to
    > make regarding people who might be invited to serve on the organizing
    > committee. We are particularly interested in inviting young people
    > who have a strong interest in the future of RHIC, and who may indeed
    > play a role in developing and using some of the detectors and
    > technology important for its future. Once we have received your
    > input, we would like to convene an organizational meeting to develop
    > the program for the workshop in mid-June.
    >
    > Your input will be greatly appreciated. We look forward to
    > hearing from you soon.
