Hello. Since I did not know I can archive my own files to HPSS, I
thought I share what I found out. You can archive your files to HPSS.
Every user of rcf computers have his/her own directory (/home/username)
in our HPSS system. You can keep any important files there. To do it,
you can do three ways: rftp, hsi and htar.

    1. Most of you know "rftp", which is plain ftp for HPSS system.
    2. "hsi" is a speical HPSS program ( see
http://www.sdsc.edu/Storage/hsi ). To use this command, you must use
Kerberos 5 password. If you want to archive a root file to HPSS, do
"hsi put xxx.root : xxx.root" . This will put xxx.root file in your
home directory in HPSS. You can get that file by "hsi get xxx.root :
xxx.root". If you have a lot of text files to archive, do " tar cvf -
    *.txt | hsi put - : xxx.tar "
    3. htar (see
    http://www.rhic.bnl.gov/RCF/UserInfo/Facilities/HPSS/Documentation/Htar.txt
) I have not tried it yet.

Anyhow, this is going to be usefull when we need to remove files from
data disks as well as local disks (rcf update is very close!!!) .

    Hiro
