    This certainly should work. I went back to the old hijing and noted
    quickly that the
    compile flags were
    -fno-automatic -finit-local-zero -ffixed-line-lenght-132
    I seem to  remember that I added the -finit-local-zero" , presumably
    initializng data has option.
    Remember that hijing was develped on a VMS-VAX !
    
    So I updated configure.in to inclede these flags from the previous
    version of hijing, and surprise
    the program ran at least 10 events.
    
    The new configure.in is committed.
    I have not checked any of the other codes for this kind of mishap when
    carried over to breg
