    Hi Flemming,  This is what I tried earlier.  Just to be sure, I went 
    throught
    the delete, checkout steps again exactly as you suggest:  same problem.  
    I also
    deleted the full brat tree and tried a fresh complete checkout--same problem
    with the
    
    cvs [checkout aborted]: illegal special character in RCS field in 
    /afs/rhic/brahms/BRAHMS_CVS/brat/dc/src/BrLocalTrackDC.cxx,v
    
    error.   If it works fine for you, I guess this might be a 
    linuxPPC/Macintosh
    problem.  I'll try to check out the dc directory on the piis and scp it 
    over...
