In general, I think we should stick to "production releases" of ROOT. These are the releases with the biggest revision number of the previous minor version. Currently the "new" version is 3.01/00, "pro" is 3.00/06, and "old" is 2.25/03 (the one we currently call "pro" internally). I should warn you (all) that much has changed during the development cycle of ROOT 3.00 (revision 01 is not that close to revision 06). Please read the news builtin carefully! Hardware accelration in X is now a reality, and it does a damn good job at it.
