Running Fastbus Pedestals During PR01

Currently, fastbus pedestals are determined with these run types:  low intensity beam triggered runs,  TOF cosmic runs, TOF LED runs without voltage on the LEDs, or internally triggered Fastbus pedestal runs.  The pedestal calculation software can run over any of these run types to determine the Fastbus pedestals.

It is important to do one pedestal run per day.  Furthermore, pedestal runs can only be done with out beam in the machine. The best time to do a pedestal run is right after a beam dump, and the RHIC magnets are ramping down.  Lastly, the silicon will have to be turned off prior to doing a pedestal run.

To determine the ADC pedestals and to write them to the database, run the FBPedCalc macros.

    Step by Step

    Section A:

  1. Is FEC Power Supply Low voltage on?
  2. If yes, go to Section B (Si Low Voltage On).
  3. If no, go to Section C (Si Low Voltage Off).

Section B (Si Low Voltage On):

  1. Make sure there is no beam in the ring.
  2. Determine if you have at least 5 minutes.
  3. On DAQ Gui, pull down the DAQExpert Menu.
  4. Disable Silicon by clicking on Si Is Enabled.  The check mark will be removed if the Si is disabled.
  5. Run DAQ with run type as FBPED, Fastbus enabled, and Silicon disabled.
  6. Collect 2,000 to 10,000 events.  Collecting 10,000 events takes 7 minutes at 25Hz.
  7. Stop DAQ after at least 2000 events have been collected.
  8. Click Stop Run on the DAQ Gui once more.
  9. Quit the DAQ Gui, and restart it using the DAQ documentation.
  10. Click Stop Run before you begin another run.
  11. Run FBPedCalc macros to determine the pedestals.

Section C (Si Low Voltage Off):

  1. Make sure there is no beam in the ring.
  2. Determine if you have at least 5 minutes.
  3. Run DAQ with run type as FBPED, Fastbus enabled, and Silicon enabled.
  4. Collect 2,000 to 10,000 events.  Collecting 10,000 events takes 7 minutes at 25Hz.
  5. Stop DAQ after at least 2000 events have been collected.
  6. Run FBPedCalc macros to determine the pedestals.
