    Shift Crew responsibility

• make sure that beams are stored and cogged for 15 minutes without major
  losses before ramping up silicon bias
• check radiation levels on chipmunks, should be less than 1000 Microrad/Second.
  If not don't switch on silicon

Notes :Important ! If, for some reason, more than 10 FEC ports are latched up, do NOT issue a latchup 
                                     reset since this can damaged the power supplies of silicon. [called Si expert]. 

• Most monitoring systems are slow or very slow, please be patient !
• When Silicon Low Voltage is ON (with AND without BIAS) the DAQ and online should be running to be able to monitor the Silicon system.
• IF the DAQ is NOT RUNNING you are 'FLYING BLIND' and the Silicon BIAS should be ramped down until the DAQ is FIXED.
• Silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies should be switched ON first, before ramping up the magnet to full field
• Silicon Bias Power should be ramped down and Silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies ON before ramping down magnet.
• In case beam lost, magnet quenching, beam dump or power dip, stop run and ramp down bias.
• In case of emergency, stop run and then Click button on the bottom part
  of the screen on SiMon and call Silicon expert.

• During data taking, watch the beam conditions. Check that the blue and yellow beam intensities are not
  dropping and look for increasing radiation on the Chipmunks.

Section 1 : Data taking for Stored and Cogged Beam (no Steering)

  :  
     - if FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies is already ON jump to Step 2. 
     - if FEC LOW Voltage Power Supplies is OFF follow instruction :  in the end of this documentation and after that you jump to Step 2 .

• The Silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies should be already ON, DAQ is running without writing and no Latchup.
• For Latchup see Section 3 (when Latchup happens) in this document.
• Check the radiation levels on the Chipmunks again, should be less than 1000 Microrad/Second
  If not, don't switch on silicon, switch off FEC Low Voltage, call expert..
• Ramp up the Silicon Bias by clicking on the green button under the Bias Power Supplies Control on SiMon
• Wait until the Silicon Bias has ramped up and all indicators are green
• During the bias ramps, the Central Alarmer will go off, this is normal
• After the Silicon bias turned on, one FEC (FEC 27) will have latched up, and both the Latchup 
  (we are not sure, at this point if this latchup still occurs)
  window on the <OnLatchup1> and the <OnlLatchup 2> client will turn red, and the <Central Alarmer > will sound
• Follow the instructions for below
• Keep DAQ running without writing for 5 minutes after the Si bias has been ramped up to give the system time to stabilize
• Stop the run on the DAQGui
• Enable writing to Disk
• Start a new run,
• you are now taking data

Section 2 :  End of the Store

1)  Stop the run 

2)  Wait until MCR has ramped down our magnet 

3)  Switch off Silicon with: Click button on the bottom part of the screen on SiMon
        

• Stop the run
• Click on the button   

  in case of power dip or storm (bad weather) or ...

• Stop the run
• Click button on the bottom part of the screen on SiMon

Section 3 :  When Latchup happens, what should you do ?

• Initial state after ramping up the Silicon Bias
  - Click on the Si Latchup Vfp Summary on the portal which should not be (old).
       - After ramping up the bias the following FEC ports will have latched up:
          FEC     Port
            27      0&1&2&3
           If more ports are latched up make a note in the logbook about which FEC/port are latched up. 
              (see the important note in the beginning of the document) 
  -  Click on <Reset Latchup> under the <SiExpert> menu on the DAQ gui. 
  -  After 40 seconds, the <OnLatchup1> and <OnLatchup2 ( need 2 minutes)>  
           windows should be green . Click on the Si Latchup Summary Vfp on the portal and check 
          that all indicator are green, otherwise call Silicon EXPERT

• If you have a latchup, as indicated by the <OnlLatchup1> or <OnLatchup2> display, you should:
       -  Stop the run. Start a new one without writing.
       -  Click on the Si Latchup Vfp Summary on the portal which should not be (old).
       -  Record in the online logbook which, and how many, FEC/Ports have 
           red indicator :
       1 - If the number of ports with red indicator is less than or equal to 10,  
                  click on <Reset Latchup under the <SiExpert> menu on the DAQ gui. 
                  <OnLtchup1 (after 40 seconds) >  and <OnLatchup2 (takes 
                  upto 2 minutes) windows should be green
        2- If the number of ports latchup (red indicator on the Silicon Latchup Vfp Summary) is larger than 10, call Silicon Expert
          - If the 10 ports or more latchup (red indicator)  appear in the FECs 1,17,18,19,20,21 and 22, 
          - click on the  button on the bottom part of the screen 
                 on SiMon . 
          - follow instruction
          - If you have general latchup more than 10 ports (red indicator)  including some 
              FECs from 17 to 22 and call Silicon expert before proceeding to next step : 
          1- Click button on the bottom part of the
               screen on SiMon
          2- Wait 10 minutes before switching ON FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies
          3 - follow instruction

• Initial state after switching on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies
  - Click on the Si Latchup Vfp Summary on the portal which should not be (old)  
  - After switching on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies,
           the following FEC ports will have probably latched up:
          FEC     Port       
             1         2&3        And possibly Also:
             9        2&3               FEC    Port    
            17         3                   11        0
            18         3                   27        0
            21       2&3                42        0
            27       2&3                  5        0
           If more ports are latched up make a note in the logbook about which FEC/port have latch up 
            (see the important note in the beginning of the document) 
  -  Click on <Reset Latchup> under the <Expert> menu on the DAQ gui. 
  -  Click on the Si Latchup Vfp Summary on the portal and check Vfp (all indicators should be green )
       -  After 30 seconds, the <OnLatchup1> and <OnLatchup2 (need 2 minutes)>  windows should be green, otherwise call Silicon EXPERT

• Initial state after switching on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies
  - Click on the Si Latchup Vfp Summary on the portal which should not be (old)  
  - After switching on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies,
           the following FEC ports will have latched up:
  
          FEC     Port
            17         3
            18         3
            21       2&3
           If more ports are latched up call a Silicon EXPERT
  -  Click on <Reset Latchup> under the <Expert> menu on the DAQ gui. 
  -  Click on the Si Latchup Vfp Summary on the portal and check Vfp (Vfp should be not equal to 0)
       -  After 20 seconds, the <OnLatchup1> and <OnLatchup2 (need 2 minutes)>  windows should be green, otherwise call Silicon EXPERT

• Kill DAQGui, if it is running, by doing the following:
        1)  stop the run, if it is active
        2)  click <Quit PhatDAQ> under <File> menu  
• DO NOT PERFORM THIS STEP IF THIS IS JUST FOR
  switch on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies by doing the
  following (make sure lights in the tunnel are off) :
        1)  click green <ON> button in FEC PS Control on SiMon
        2)  all the status buttons should appear as <ok> and be green, with the
              exception of 2 red buttons under <OctVtx>  (this is normal and will go
              away in a few steps) . The alarmer will sound, this is normal
• start up the DAQGui by clicking on the icon PhatDAQRunControl on the desktop. See also instructions for starting the DAQ (click the "OK" button).
• Wait until the DAQGui has appeared.
• Wait for the "waiting for CMD" message in the <SiROC Messages> window
• Disable Writing to Disk
• Set runtype to AllBeam 
• Start a run
• Click on the icon on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen 
  on Online Monitoring 3, this will restart all online clients
• Follow the instructions for :  
  OR Follow the instructions for :
   
• The 2 red buttons on SiMon under <OctVtx> should turn green within 20 seconds after resetting the latchup
• The <OnlLatchup1> client on the Online Monitoring #3 computer  should also become green in 30 seconds
• The <OnlLatchup2> client on the Online Monitoring #3 computer  should also become green after few minutes
• If either the <OnLatchup1> or the <OnlLatchup2> client becomes red,  or the <OnlLatchup1> client alarm goes off on the <Central Alarmer>,
  (make sure they are running), call Silicon EXPERT.
