if beam with 6 bunches : Gerrit/Rachid/Corey/Kris/Jay
if beam with 56 bunches
: Si expert Gerrit and Rachid
- make sure that beams are stored and cogged
for 10 minutes without major losses
- check radiation levels on chipmunks, should be less than 30 Microrad/Second. If not, don't
switch on silicon.
- Silicon Low Voltage Power Suplies should be switched ON first,
before ramping up the magnet to full field
- Silicon should be switched OFF completely before ramping down
magnet
: say the
following magic words :
- we are happy about
the collision rate (if the collision rate is reasonable)
- ask MCR what their
plans for this store are
- if they want to do
steering then don't switch on the silicon, wait until they have finished steering and call
them again
- tell them that you
would like to switch on silicon and ask them if they expect the conditions to be stable
- ask MCR to alert
PHOBOS 10 minutes before they dump the beam, so that we can switch off the silicon
- thank them for their
efforts
if there is no steering and the beams are stable :
- Kill DAQGui, if it is running, by doing the following:
1) stop the run, if it is active
2) click <Quit PHATDAQ> under <File> menu
3) type <control-C> in the RUN
xterm
- Look at the Online Monitoring#3 computer, the OnLatchup1
client should be present and running with a green screen. If it is not running, kill
the client windows and do the following:
1) open an xterm
2) type ./restart_online
3) click on the start button on the OnLatchup1 window
- Look at the Online Monitoring #1 computer, the " Silicon
Status " window should be present and updating every 60 seconds. If it is not present
do the following :
1) open xterm, if one is not available.
2) start phat
3) .x si_hybrids_rachid.C
- ROCDB on DAQ should be running and updating every 30 seconds.
It is in an xterm window on the desktop. If it is not running see the DAQ documentation to
restart ROCDB.
- switch on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power Supplies by doing the
following (make sure lights in the tunnel are off) :
1) click green <ON> button in FEC PS Control on
SiMon
2) all the status buttons should appear as <ok>
and be green, with the exception of 2 red buttons
under <OctVtx> (this is normal and
will go away in a few steps) . The alarmer will sound, this is normal.
- start up the DAQGui by clicking on the PhatDAQRunControl icon on
the desktop. See also instructions for starting the DAQ.
- Wait until the DAQGui has appeared and the message "Ready to
receive initialisation parameters" has appeared in the <SiROC Messages> window
- Within 3 minutes, you must click on the <Init Silicon> item
under the <Expert> menu
- Wait for the "waiting for CMD" message in the <SiROC
Messages> window
- <Enable Silicon> by clicking on the white box next to it
- Disable Writing to Disk
- Set runtype to AllBeam
- Start a run
- Follow the instructions for
below
- The 2 red buttons on SiMon under <OctVtx> should turn green
within 20 seconds
- The Latchup window in the <Silicon Status> display on
the Online Monitoring #1 computer should become green within 40 seconds
- The <OnlLatchup1> client on the Online Monitoring #3
computer should also become green
- If either the <Silicon Status> or the <OnlLatchup>
client becomes red, or the <OnlLatchup1> client alarm goes off on the
<Central Alarmer>, then it is time to call an EXPERT (Rachid/Gerrit).
- Switch ON Magnet
- Check the radiation levels on the Chipmunks again, should be less
than 30 Microrad/Second. If not, don't switch on silicon.
- Ramp up the Silicon Bias by clicking on the green <Ramp Up>
button under the Bias Power Supplies Control on SiMon
- Wait until the Silicon Bias has ramped up and all indicators are
green
- During the bias ramps, the Central Alarmer will go off, this is
normal
- After the Silicon bias turned on, one FEC (FEC 27) will have
latched up, and both the Latchup window on the <Silicon Status> display and the
<OnlLatchup 1> client will turn red, and the <Central Alarmer > will sound
- Follow the instructions for
below
- After 40 seconds both the < window Silicon Status> and the
<OnlLatchup1> client should be green.
- If this is not the case
call an EXPERT (Rachid/Gerrit).
- Stop the run on the DAQGui
- Enable writing to Disk
- Start a new run
- Ready and taking data
- Stop the run
- Click button <TURN OFF SILICON> on the bottom part of the screen on SiMon
- Initial state after switching on the silicon FEC Low Voltage Power
Supplies
- Click on the Si hybrids on the
portal which should not be (old).
- For some reason ROCDB sometimes seems to be lagging behind the
actual state of the system.
This will give old readings although the timestamp
has updated. The best thing to do is to click on <Latest
until the timestamp has updated 3 times. Normally
ROCDB is writing into the database every 30 seconds,
so you have to wait for, at least, 90 seconds to get
the 3rd reading.
- After switching on the silicon FEC Low
Voltage Power Supplies the following FEC ports will have latched up:
FEC Port
9 2&3
17 3
18 3
21 2&3
27 2&3
If more ports are latched up call a
Silicon EXPERT
- Click on <Reset Latchup> under the
<Expert> menu on the DAQ gui.
- After 40 seconds, the <Silicon Status> and
<OnLatchup1 > windows should be green, otherwise call Silicon EXPERT
- Initial state after ramping up the Silicon Bias
- Click on the Si hybrids on the
portal which should not be (old).
- For some reason ROCDB sometimes seems to be lagging behind the

- Click on the Si hybrids on
the portal which should not be (old).

This will give old readings although the

- Record in the online logbook which, and how many,
FEC/Ports have Vfp = 0 (last column) :
1 - If the number of ports with Vfp
= 0 is less than or equal to 8,
you can click on <Reset Latchup> under the
<Expert> menu on the DAQ gui. After 40 seconds, <Silicon Status> and
<OnLatchup1 > windows should be green
2 - If the number of ports with Vfp
= 0 is larger than 8, you must switch off the silicon (see
"Switching OFF Silicon"),
then
call Rachid or Gerrit inform them about the situation. If there is no problem with beam,
you will switch on silicon
