Pre-Installation

  1. Before you install ANO, review the hard copy Release Notes.
  2. Install any Oracle8 client or Oracle8 database software you may require.
  3. Install and test your network hardware and software, if applicable.

    CAUTION:  

    Net8 and ANO have some DLLs that share the same name but not the same functionality. Because of this, do not install Net8 Client or Server after installing ANO. If you do, ANO will not work because some DLLs will be overwritten. 


     
     

    Attention:  

    Two versions of ANO cannot co-exist in the same Oracle home directory if they are of the same major release (for example, release 8.0.5 and release 8.0.3) because they depend on common files; one overwrites the other. 


     
     

System Requirements

Before installation, check the following requirements:

Hardware Requirements

ANO requires the following hardware:
Windows NT Server  Clients1 

Personal computer based on a Pentium processor. Multi-processor computers are also supported. 

Personal computer based on an Intel 80486 processor or higher. 

48 MB RAM 

32 MB RAM for Windows NT  

24 MB RAM for Windows 95 and Windows 98 

Installed and functioning network

200 MB minimum hard disk space is recommended.  

To find out how much disk space is required by each product, select the product in the Software Asset Manager2 window, and view the disk space requirements in the information field. 

100 MB hard disk space is recommended.

SecurID Authentication Adapter requires a token card. 

 
1 ANO for Windows 3.1x is provided for backward compatibility with Oracle7. Note that there are no Oracle8 components available on Windows 3.1x. ANO for Windows 3.1x requires 8 MB RAM. 
2 To access the Software Asset Manager window, start Oracle Installer, and select Custom. If you do not want to perform a Custom after reviewing the disk space requirements of products, click Exit and begin the installation process again.

Products Available for Installation

Oracle Installer enables you to install, update, and remove ANO products quickly. When you run Oracle Installer, a dialog box displays installation options. When you select an option, a group of products is automatically installed. The options that appear depend upon the operating system you are using.

CAUTION:

If you click Cancel in any Oracle Installer dialog box, Oracle Installer exits.

To install ANO products:

  1. Start your operating system. If you are running Windows NT, log on to your Windows NT server as a member of the Administrators group.
  2. Stop all Oracle applications (if any are running).
  3. If installing on Windows NT, stop all Oracle services (if any are running). To stop services:
    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. From the Control Panel, double-click Services.
    3. If any Oracle services exist and have the status Started, select the service, and click Stop.
    4. Click Close to exit the Services window.
  4. Insert the Oracle Advanced Networking Option CD-ROM.
  5. The operating system automatically detects your Oracle Advanced Networking Option CD-ROM. The Oracle8 Products-Autorun dialog box appears and prompts you to make a selection:

  6. Click Begin Installation.
  7. Each time you insert your CD-ROM, the process described in Step 4 occurs. To restart Oracle Installer without removing and re-inserting your CD-ROM, select the drive to which the CD-ROM is mapped, and double-click SETUP.EXE.

    The Oracle Installation Settings dialog box appears.

  8. Specify a company name, Oracle home name, Oracle home location, and Oracle home language, where:

    Company Name 

    Enter name of the company to which this copy of Oracle software is licensed. 

    Oracle Home Name 

    Enter name you want to use for this Oracle Home.  

    If this is the first time you are installing Oracle products on this machine, Oracle Corporation recommends you accept the default home name, DEFAULT_HOME. DEFAULT_HOME is also the Oracle name used for previous installations of Oracle software on your machine.  

    The Oracle Home name must be 1 to 16 characters long, and can only include alphanumeric characters and underscores. 

    Oracle Home Location 

    Enter subdirectory under which you want the products for this Oracle home to be installed.  

    The default value for the home location on a machine on which no other Oracle products are installed is the largest available local drive. 

    Oracle Home Language 

    Enter the language you would like to use to install and run Oracle products.  

    The default language, English, is installed in addition to any other language you select. 

     

    The Select Installation Options dialog box appears.

  10. Select an installation option, then click OK:

ANO Client

To install ANO Client:

  1. Select the required components from the DCE Integration and Authentication Adapter Installation dialog box, then click OK:
  2. Encryption and checksumming are automatically installed whether adapters are chosen or not.

    The Installing Oracle Documentation dialog box appears.

  3. Select to install Oracle8 HTML documentation on your hard drive or leave it on your CD-ROM, then click OK.
  4. ANO installation continues. A progress bar appears, indicating the percentage completion of the installation. The Installation Completed dialog box appears.

  5. Click Yes to view the documentation, click No to exit Oracle Installer, or click Help for online help.

ANO Server

To install ANO Server:

  1. Select the required components from the DCE Integration and Authentication Adapter Installation dialog box, then click OK:
  2. Encryption and checksumming are automatically installed whether adapters are chosen or not.

    The Installing Oracle Documentation dialog box appears.

  3. Select to install Oracle8 HTML documentation on your hard drive or leave it on your CD-ROM, then click OK.
  4. ANO installation continues. A progress bar appears, indicating the percentage completion of the installation. The Installation Completed dialog box appears.

  5. Click Yes to view the documentation, click No to exit Oracle Installer, or click Help for online help.

Custom

The Software Asset Manager window displays all products available for installation:

  1. Select the products to install.
  2. The products available to install are listed on the left side of the window. The Oracle products you have already installed appear on the right side of the window. To see a brief description of a component, click on the name of that component.

    To select multiple products for installation, press the CTRL key as you make your selections.

  3. Click Install to install the product(s) you have selected.
  4. Provide appropriate responses to any dialog boxes that appear.
  5. Custom Installation continues. A progress bar appears, indicating the percentage completion of the installation. The Installation Completed dialog box appears.

  6. Click OK to acknowledge the Installation Completed dialog box.
  7. To exit Oracle Installer, click Exit from the Software Asset Manager window, then click Yes.

Install ANO on Windows 3.1x

 

CAUTION:  

SQL*Net and ANO have some DLLs that share the same name but not the same functionality. Because of this, do not install SQL*Net Client after installing ANO. If you do, ANO will not work because some DLLs will be overwritten. 


 
 

If you click Cancel in any Oracle Installer dialog box, Oracle Installer exits.

To install ANO products:

  1. Start Windows 3.1x.
  2. Stop all applications that are running.
  3. Insert the Oracle8 Client CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
  4. Start Oracle Installer:
    1. Open File Manager.
    2. Select the drive to which the CD-ROM is mapped.
    3. Double-click SETUP.EXE. If you want to install 16-bit ANO on Windows NT or Windows 95 and Windows 98 clients, navigate to the WINDOWS directory and double-click SETUP.EXE.
    4. The Language dialog box appears.

  5. Select a language, or click OK to accept the default language, English.
  6. The default language, English, is installed in addition to any other language you select.

    The Oracle Installation Settings dialog box appears.

  7. Specify a company name and Oracle home directory in which to install products, then click OK.
  8. The Installation Type dialog box appears.

  9. Select an installation option, then click OK:

Typical

The Information dialog box appears if SQL*Net Client has not been installed. Go to Step 1 below.

If SQL*Net has been installed, the ANO Installation dialog box appears. Go to Step 2 below.

  1. To install SQL*Net Client:
    1. Click OK in the Information dialog box.
    2. The Oracle SQL*Net Adapter Selection dialog box appears.

    3. Select the adapter(s) you wish to install, then click OK.
    4. Continue to Step 2.

  2. Select the required components from the ANO Installation dialog box, then click OK:
  3. ANO installation continues. A progress bar appears, indicating the percentage completion of the installation. The Information dialog box appears with an "Installation Completed" message.

  4. Click OK to acknowledge the message.

Custom Installation

The Software Asset Manager window displays all products available for installation:

  1. Select the products to install.
  2. The products available to install are listed on the left side of the window. The Oracle products you have already installed appear on the right side of the window. To see a brief description of a component, click on the name of that component.

    To select multiple products for installation, press the CTRL key as you make your selections.

  3. Click Install to install the product(s) you have selected.

Remove Oracle Products

To remove Oracle products:

  1. Stop all Oracle services.
  2. Start Oracle Installer.
  3. The Products Installed field displays in the right portion of the Software Asset Manager window.
  4. Select the product(s) you want to remove from the Installed Products field.
  5. Click Remove.
  6. Oracle Installer warns you of any product dependencies that can cause problems if particular products are removed, and prompts you to confirm the de-installation.
