Mattermost is an open-source, self-hosted, secure Slack alternative for communication. Mattermost is hosted locally on the BNL site, and supports TLS encryption using AES-256 with 2048-bit RSA on all data transmissions between client applications and the Mattermost server, along with on-disk data encryption. Enterprise grade security and privacy is important for any chat application.
Currently only users who have a SDCC account may log into the SDCC Mattermost chat service. Non-SDCC users can be invited by other users to create a Mattermost local account.

Teams can only be created by a Sysadmin. If you need a Private/Public Team created for your group, please send an email to RT-RACF-GCE@bnl.gov. Once a private team has been created , users can join the private team in multiple ways, see below.
Adding Members to a Private Team
There are three ways to add an user to a private team.
1. Send Email invite.
This can be accessed through the "Main menu" in the top left corner. Users who do have SDCC accounts will have to create an account before they can join the private team.
2. Team Invite link.
This can be accessed through the "Main menu" in the top left corner. An invite URL can be sent to users, which the users can use to join a private link. The URL hash can be regenerated by a Team admin.SDCC users should use "GitLab Single Sign on" option to login.
3. Add members to team manually
This can be accessed through the "Main menu" in the top left corner. Each user can be individually selected and added to the team by any member of the private team.
Private/Public Channels can be created by any user in a team. For an user to join a private channel, the user would have to be added by an existing member of the group.
