Slow Controls Status Report
+_o BFS L1440: ready for use
+_o FFS L1440: control problem- tsir randomly drops socket connection
+_o MRS L1440: same control problem
+_o L4032: new major mode of failure: despite demand voltages being set
to zero, actual voltages drift to 2-3 kV. Saw 2 (maybe 3)
mainframes fail this way. If you use an L4032, strongly suggested
to set the front-panel voltage limit to protect phototubes tubes. I
am working with HEEP techs to understand this problem.
+_o L4032 Remote control software: implemented new and improved driver
running on sc.brahms.bnl.local. Need to tell Claus how to use it.
+_o Tiles L4032: remote control working for 2 mainframes.
+_o Beam-beam L4032: remote control working for all 3 mainframes but
one mainframe has above HV problem and needs to be replaced.
+_o MRS L4032: has broken remote control connected (pushed-in pin).
+_o High-level control software: perl/Tk BRAHVO program is stale: no
support for BFS L1440 and for added tiles and beam-beam L4032s.
However it was updated to use the new L4032 drivers. As replacement
I wrote a mainframe control program for both L1440 and L4032 that
operates on the physical channel level (BRAHVO operates at the
detector logical channel level).
+_o L1458 status: no fix to mainframe crash problem yet. The BFS
mainframe (D.C.) is on hand, not installed. AFAIK there is no L1450
control software.
2 Misc. items
+_o VME power supply controls: working.
+_o TPC readout board controls (HDLC link): can communicate with T2,
has problems on the MTPC1 link (likely to be a cabling error).
+_o ARCNET L1450 link: have ARCNET driver, can exchange messages with
mainframe, nothing done beyound that. Driver needs more work before
it can be used by high-level software.
