Hi All, Recently I've gotten a number of requests to update BRAT/BROP/BREG/CRASH/... on /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/[pro|new], so that new additions are avaliable. Therefor I'd like to point out some prerequisites for this to happen. * The revisions of the software that should be updated to _must_ correspond to a specific package version. That is, the package _must_ be tagged and the version number set appropiately, before an addition will be avaliable from /afs/rhic/opt/brahms Rational: If we allowed arbitrary updates, we'll soon find ourselves in a situation where we do not know what version of the software package some data was produced by. * The revision _must_ build and install cleanly. Rational: It's not up to the maintainers of the installations to debug contributers code. * The revision _must_ perform well. That is, it should have been asserted by the contributer before the tag and revision/minor version bump. Rational: Many different people use the /afs/rhic/opt/brahms installations, so experimental code does not belong there. For that, I recommend you make some user module and load it dynamically into your job from the configuration script. This is the prefered way of developing new modules. How to make a new release of BRAT/BROP/BREG/CRASH/... is explained in details in "The Hitchhikers Guide to BRAT" (it goes for all the packages, since the build system is the same). In general, consult that document and the appropiate class documentation before asking questions (yes, that's a RTBM - or RTFM for you over there at the colonies :-). The maintainers of the installations in /afs/rhic/opt/brahms are: Flemming <videbaek@bnl.gov> Kris <hagel@comp.tamu.edu> (In particular the Solaris installations) Christian <cholm@nbi.dk> Please contact one of the above (preferably someone close to you) when requesting new installations. It's basically a -10 minute job to upgrade a piece of software, so it isn't as if you're putting a lot of presure on anyone. We _can_not_ update BRAT/BREG while someone is using the package on CRS, since that may crash the jobs. We will try to keep up with the releases as they come out, but it's not always possible.
