FWIW, I was able to build working BRAD example executables on pii3
using egcs-1.0.3a compilers installed in ~daq/packages/egcs-1.0.3a.

I did not have to make any changes to the BRAD sources, only tell
the Makefile to use gcc/g++ from egcs-1.0.3a. The compiler
is stock egcs-1.0.3a I took from the egcs.cygnus.com archives and
bootstrapped on pii3 with a few minor problems compiling libio.
