Dear All,

I will like to share with you a recent report on authorship on papers from
large collaborations.
Even though BRAHMS do approach the size of typical HEP experiments some of
the issues are
clearly relevant to our publishing policy, which some far has been quite
general allowing anyone who
have contributed to data/analysis in a given publication to be on the
authorlist of our papers. I think
think would be a good issue at our next collaboration meeting, and will
excourage you to read the
working grouo\p report and circulate comments for considerations.

regards
    Flemming

Subject: Report by the IUPAP C11 Working Group on Authorship

Dear Colleagues,

Please find attached a copy of the report by the Working Group on Authorship
initiated by C11 of IUPAP last year. This report summarizes the assessment
by this
working group on an issue that some of us feel is of great importance to our
collaborative efforts in experimental particle physics and to the careers
of our younger colleagues.

The report does not prescribe a universal solution or offer a specific
recommendation,
but we hope that it will initiate some thought and discussion of the current
practices of authorship and may lead to some changes in the future.

There is a draft questionnaire attached at the end which we would like to
see
used to sample the opinions of your colleagues. I have not been able to
convert
this into a web-based questionnaire, but still hope to solicit some
assistance
to do so.

Of course any other form of response to this report by you or your
colleagues
would also be welcome.

Best regards

Vera Luth
Chair of C11 of IUPAP
