====== Acting Scheduling Physicist -YIP (ie. A-SPY) news channel ========

(0) Christoph Montag will come back and take his position back as the Scheduling
Physicist starting on Dec. 18, 2004.

(1) Schedule update

I've put my final schedule prediction at the same place (top of the following webpage):
http://www.c-ad.bnl.gov/kinyip/SchedPhys/RHIC_shorts_2004/

Cool-down started earlier by > 1 day. After talking with the Cryogenic
group (about now), we may need to be conservative in when the cool-down
would finish. The Blue ring may be ready for beam on Dec. 24/25, assuming
that George & Co. need 1 day for testing the magnets. Yellow ring hopefully
will be ready ~3 days later.

(2) Last batch of personal comments ... "pushing" mystery

During these 2 weeks, it is actually not easy to gain information. Though the Main
Control Room (MCR) has never been my best friend, I have actually missed the function
of MCR a bit. Because if MCR were working as usual, people would naturally report
things to MCR or MCR would routinely ask for progress, then I could just check
with MCR. Perhaps, more importantly, I don't need to worry about communication
problem that much.

So, I've been making a fair no. of phone calls/paging people/emails etc. to different parties.
I've just realized in the last couple of days that some of them might have felt that I have
been pushing them in the last 2 weeks to get things go quicker !

Honestly, at the 99.5% level, my intention was only to ask for information and updates.
But if things actually worked faster after my "subtle pushing", I wouldn't mind either :-) :-)

To be even more honest, I think the most important part is that the people in this Dept.
just sort of "automatically and spontaneously" know what/how/when things should be
done. I had similar feeling when I watched Donald Trump's apprentice candidates
manage the charity events last night. I felt that things seemed to work out not mainly
because of the candidates' management for a couple days but because the "real
workers" involved just knew more or less what needed to be done.

The final outcome in history is the integration of all the actions of all the infinitesimal
differentials (each person involved !) --- something that I "remember" from Leo Tolstoy's
"War and Peace". The Russian defeating the French at that time was not really
due to a particular Russian general being better than Napoleon; but rather due to
the integrated minds of all the Russians involved in the war.

OK ... I believe I go far enough :-) Have a nice holiday !
