Dear Ramiro and collaboration I have reread the paper. Having discussed the analysis aspects with Flemming last week I assume that there are no more concerns regarding the consistency of the data in the plots (I do not intend to pull out the ruler and the pocket calculator on an enlarged photocopy!). I propose a number of small changes that I hope can clarify the text further: p 2. para 1. : - Move the sentence "We compare the yields ..." up right after the sentence " ... been reported [9,10]. -do not make a paragraph break here. -replace the sentence "These covered ranges...." with "Measuring pions with p_t=2GeV/c at these rapidities corresponds to probing the gluon structure of the gold nuclei inan x range from 1x10-2 to 4x 10-4." p2 para 5: The sentence "The Forward spectrometer acceptance ranges ...." rings a bit clumsy with respect to the errors. In any case replace Forward spectrometer with "FS" and correct "fron" to "from". p3 para 2. In the sentence "The shade bands..." replace "error" with uncertainty" make a paragraph break before the sentence: "The observed suppression of yield in d+Au..." p4. Summary para rephrase last sentence to "...onset of saturation of the gluon density in the Au nuclei at small x...." p4 final para. Rephrase to: " The results presented highlight the importance of forward and high rapidity physics at RHIC and the perspective for studying saturation phenomena in nuclei at RHIC energies." and .. update the letter to the editor and referees accordingly. I will not go into the wording of the letter to the referees: it is carefully and respectfully worded and certainly should do the job of placating them - although I cannot refrain from noticing that the reply is longer than the paper! thanks for the effort and looking forward to a happy resubmission cheers JJ ____________________________________________________________ Jens Jørgen Gaardhøje, Professor, Dr. Sc.
