Hello. This is the warning to anyone who have (or will have) access RCF
computers. (This is basicly everyone.) You will probably recive
similar mail from BNL if BNL knows your mail address. But, I pass along
the some info. Here is the some information I got from BNL user
management people.

(copied from the mail from BNL)
.....
BNL management recently provided guidance which states that all
individuals having access to a Brookhaven computer must hold an active
guest status with the laboratory (basically an RCF account must be
matched with an active guest number). This is not the case for some RCF
users and this must be corrected.

What Do You Need to Do?

     1. If you HAVE an active BNL ID card or hold an active appointment
with BNL you should check that your account has a matching guest number
by going to XXXXXXXXXX. If a match is found, nothing further needs to be
done. If a match is NOT found, it is because you either do not have an
active guest status with Brookhaven or the name in the RCF database does
not match the name in BNL's guest database. In either case, you need to
take additional steps, register for a guest appointment or contact the
Users' Center for assistance.

    2. If you are a RHIC collaborator and have an account at RCF but DO
NOT currently have an active guest status with the laboratory, you
need to register for a guest appointment using Brookhaven's
web-based registration system at https://fsd84.bis.bnl.aov/quest .Do
this immediately.

    3. If by July 12th, you have not registered or do not have an active
guest appointment with BNL, your RCF account will be shut down.

....

Now, the important thing is that you need to have an "active" guest
status (it lasts 2 years for the most people I think.) So, make sure to
update your status.

Other thing, which came up during the meeting, is that if you are the
remote access only user, you are not allowed to go physically into the
BNL site. Make sure to update your status before you show up at the
BNL entrance. (Supposedly, this happened a few times.)

Hiro
