dear collaborator, let me give you a first brief report on the outcome of today's whitepaper meeting in Port Jefferson. I think all the presentations were quite good, much in line what has been shown at the RBRC an the NSAC sub-committee meetings recently. The presentations will be available on the web; once I get the address from all exp I will send a message. There was considereable agreement between the experiments in what has been learned in regard to the hot dense matter, in terms of that the system must dense (v2), opaque (jet quenjhing), equilibration (particle ratios, v2) but that a precise nature has not been determined, e.g is it deconfined? The great uncertainty in theoretical predictions, and lack of well rounded theory was also discussed. Thus no-one expressed a desire to announche (yet another) discovery, despite the external pressure brought forward from theorists and management. An expectation from some was given that the the analysis of the current run-4 with a factor 10 in statistics may improve the experiments so definitive statements may be made. Others expressed the view that a rather long exploratory phase with detailled data AND better theory is needed to make real progress. It was decided to go forward on a timecale of ~2 months to finalize the whitepapers for a joint publication in a review journal (Re.Modern Physics,..) of 4 parallel papers. This process will be initiated right away. The white papers shown at the meeting will NOT be available for other experiments until each experiment have had their internal, final reviews of the papers on the timescale of 4-6 weeks. In fact the timeline for making the papers public to the other experiments will be on or about August 15. It was also agreed that the experiments will not have the whitepares, or a summary thereof , be part of a possible RBRC book volume at the july time frame. best regards Flemming ---------------------------------------------------------------- Flemming Videbaek Physics Department Brookhaven National Laboratory e-mail: videbaek@bnl.gov phone: 631-344-4106 _______________________________________________ Brahms-l mailing list Brahms-l@lists.bnl.gov http://lists.bnl.gov/mailman/listinfo/brahms-lReceived on Mon Jun 14 21:58:09 2004
