Subject: SPY news update: Time meeting on Mar. 23 ... next week's "sex change"

====== Scheduling Physicist -YIP (ie. SPY) news channel ========

************************************************************

(1) As usual, the next Time meeting is next Tuesday (Mar. 23, 2004)
at 13:30 in the Snyder Seminar Room.

************************************************************

(2) Schedule this week :

Mar. 22 Monday 20:00 --- Tuesday 08:00 Beam Expt.

Mar. 24 Wed. 08:00 Machine Development for the lower energy run
until it's good enough for physics. This could happen on Thursday or so.

These days, due to Wolfram and other machine physicists' better-than-
expected performance in FY2004, people now have expected them and
the machine to perform better than whatever the expectation that
Wolfram et. al. tells us. They can have only themselves to "blame" :-) :-)

************************************************************

(3) 3 day RHIC shutdown, Apr. 5-7 again :

The 3 day (I didn't say 3 nights, did I ?) shutdown is to end at 18:00 on
Apr. 7 (Wed. evening) for most people EXCEPT the Jet Target group
(under the leadership of Y. Makdisi). When can we start to run the
RHIC again depends on when the Jet Target group allows us to do
so.

You know, if Wolfram says that he needs 3 days, we NOW all have had
enough calibration data and expect him to need only ~2 days or less,
right ? But for Yousef, hmm ... at least I didn't have data to calibrate
and so it's hard to say !! Ha Ha Ha ....

************************************************************

(4) Away notice : Next week's "sex change" :

I'll be away from Mar. 27 and Apr. 4 (inclusive) as I'll be going to the
Moriond conference (somewhere in the Alps) to give a talk for 2 expts.
at Fermilab ---- you shouldn't judge my loyalty :-)

Angelika will be the Scheduling Physicist in my absence --- that is what
I mean by "sex change" ! I have asked some senior people. As far
as people can recollect, Angelika may be the ONLY woman scheduling
physicist ?!! Let me know if this isn't true. Maybe, we should nominate
more women to take this position :-) :-) Who are you thinking ???

************************************************************

(5) The Midnight rule for NSRL :

It seems, so far, for NSRL (NASA), even we scheduled the experiments to
finish at 8 pm or as early as 5 pm, NSRL has gone into midnight every single
day since we started last Monday. Tonight is NOT an exception
unfortunately and it may be even later than previous nights ! The
uniformity of the carbon beams again seems to be worse than other
ions such as iron and silicon. This doesn't help.
