FYI mainly along the lines what I already send out. SPY) news channel ======== (1) The usual Time meeting will happen again on Mar. 2, 2004 (Tuesday) in the Snyder Room (911A). *********************************************************** (2) This week's schedule looks like : Tuesday : Beam Expts. 20:00 - 07:00 (Wed.) Wednesday: Scheduled Maintenance 07:00 - 15:00 Thursday: Machine Development 09:00 - 16:00 --- subject to cancellation and shortening *********************************************************** (3) Brief status (in my view): We've had overall a great week of luminosity (at the highest level ~> 150 inverse microbarn a week depending whether you count between two Monday's or two Sunday's or two Tuesday's). But we have had some problems in the weekend with the collimator, Tandom source and water leak in the STAR expt. area etc. The AGS/Booster is really busy. In principle, this week, it's mainly for the polarized-proton set-up; next week, it's mainly for the NSRL (NASA) set-up. But we need to do "bunch-merging" exercise. Today, we've also tested the Booster beam operation with D6 septum on and off. Apparently, our colleagues are working in a very civilized way to try to accomplish all the impossible goals at the same time. *********************************************************** (4) AGS access .... Challenging the smoothness of our operation ... At the time of writing, we have the 2nd AGS access behind a RHIC store this run. This has to do with fixing problems with the CNI polarimeter in the AGS. Last Thursday, we had the first AGS behind a RHIC store. This is something that is frowned upon by various people, mainly because it takes ~45 minutes to put the LOTO (Log-Out/Tag-Out) to AGS at the beginning and another 45 minutes to take the LOTO off at the end. If the RHIC store were to be aborted accidentally, we'd be wasting time (even if we can get those people out of the AGS ring immediately) as we'll have to wait for the LOTO to be taken off first before we can start the injection business in AGS into RHIC. This AGS feature (having to spend ~1.5 hours to open/close) is not ideal, to say the least for our operation --- in my opinion. A good way of putting this AGS access behind RHIC store is probably to say that we are challenging the "smoothness" of our RHIC operation ! Last Thursday's AGS access, those people were to install some electronics. But guess what ? Those guys' electronics were actually readyonly by ~10 am --- i.e. ~2 hours before they actually had that AGS access ! They didn't tell me that when they made that request the previous week or even a couple days ago --- a not very good practice. ====== ======= ====== ======= ====== ======= ====== ======= This SPY news channel solicits YOUR input of any sorts.
