(1) The usual Time meeting will be held at 13:30 on
Feb. 24 (Tuesday), 2004 in the Snyder Room (911A).

****************************** ****************************

(2) Main schedule item this week :

Wed. (Feb. 25):  06:00 - 18:00  Beam Expts.
Thur. (Feb. 26): 09:00 - 16:00 Machine Development which may be
                                                    cancelled or shortened.

On Thursday, Haixing et. al. will install electronics for the polarimeter
in the AGS behind a RHIC store. Moreover, the polarized-proton
AGS run will start this Thursday (in preparation for the RHIC
polarized-proton run).

****************************** ****************************

(3) 4.5 hours => 3.5 hours

To optimze our operation further to improve luminosity, we have set
the store length to the following manner (from the previous 4.5 hours):

    if  ( ! PHOBOS_background ) // i.e.,   if there is no PHOBOS
        store_length = 3.5 hours     //           background problem
    else // ie. if PHOBOS background
        store_length = 4.5 hours    //         problem does exist
    endif

We'll re-evaluate next week to see whether this works well. The
polarized-proton team and NSRL (NASA) both actually would
probably prefer a longer store length.

****************************** ****************************

(4) Brief status in my view:

We again have had another weekend with the greatest luminosity collected
so far. The increased bunch intensities ~ 1.1*10^9 proton per bunch more
than compensate for the reduced bunch numbers. Experiments seem to
be OK with this mode for the time being.

The LINAC (Linear Accelerator) has run with beam since last week and
I was told that they start sending beam to BLIP (Brookhaven LINAC
Isotope Producer --- I bet not many people know this abbreviation) as
early as today.

I have received a very colorful schedule for the NSRL-2 run which is
currently said to run from Mar. 15 to Apr. 22, 2004. There are many
many expts. ........ Hmm ......

In this morning's Injector (AGS/Booster) meeting, people have started
to come to grip with the reality of multi-purpose running ----- it's very
hard !
