    Dear Colleagues,

    The US will be imposing new rules on the Visa waiwer namely that the passport be machine readble;
    otherwise one needs a visa. I know newer Danish passports are readable, but e.g. french are not.

    Subject: Change in Visa Waiver Program

    | The State Department has recently issued a cable to all diplomatic and consular posts which could impact travel to the
    U. S.
    |
    | Specifically, beginning on October 1, 2003, all citizens of countries
    | participatring in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) who wish to enter the U.
    | S. visa-free must present a machine-readable passport (MRP).  If they
    | do not have an MRP, they must apply for the visa.
    |
    | If you know someone who will be travelling to the U. S.from one of the
    | visa waiver countries, please have them visit the State Department
    | website (http://travel.state.gov/vwp.html) for the latest information.
