    Dear collaborators.

Below follows the abstract to be submitted, re. Flemmings email, to RHIC and the other exp. Dana's suggestion to interchange the last 2 sentences has been followed.

Claus has now posted an updated history of the analysis on the web site, which Ian is reading. It will be released a bit later tonight (DK - night).
Claus has indicated some rough systematic errors bands on sample plots. These are but examples to evidence the effect of syst on the physics conclusions.. The final data plots will look quite like the plots in the paper draft, but with such error bands added (and possibly enlarged). .
Peter will take another shot at the consistency of the analysis tomorrow, and Claus will after 48 hrs of rest work hard sunday and monday to produce the latest publication quality figures. i expect, with Ian help to go over the text agian in the weekend and work on the references.

    regards
    JJ

    \begin{abstract}
We present spectra of charged hadrons from Au+Au and d+Au collisions
at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV measured with the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC.
The spectra for different collision centralities are compared to spectra
from nucleon-nucleon collisions at the same energy scaled by the number
of binary collisions. The resulting ratios (nuclear modification factors)
      for central $Au+Au$ collisions at $\eta=0$ and $\eta \approx 2$ evidence a strong
suppression in the high $p_{T}$ region ($>$2 GeV/c). In contrast
the d+Au nuclear modification factor (at $\eta=0$) exhibits an enhancement
of the high $p_T$ yields. The lack of suppression in d+Au collisions
rules out initial state effects as explanation for the suppression in the
central Au+Au collisions. These measurements indicate a high energy
loss of the high $p_T$ particles in a medium created in the central
      Au+Au collisions.
