FYI I enclose an abstract of a newly announched STAR paper. The paper is PRL Flemming -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Release of STAR Paper From: Tim Hallman <hallman@bnl.gov> Date: Wed, May 14, 2003 11:24 pm To: tkirk@bnl.gov, zajc@nevis.columbia.edu, videbaek@bnl.gov, busza@mit.edu Dear Tom, Bill, Flemming, and Wit, I am pleased to announce STAR's intention to submit a new paper on high pt suppression in AuAu collisions at roots_NN = 200 GeV one week from today. The title and the abstract are enclosed below. Sincerely, Tim Transverse momentum and collision energy dependence of high pT hadron suppression in Au+Au collisions at ultrarelativistic energies We report high statistics measurements of inclusive charged hadron production in Au+Au and p+p collisions at Sqrt(sNN)=200 GeV. A large, approximately constant hadron suppression is observed in central Au+Au collisions for 5 < pT < 12 GeV/c. The collision energy dependence of the yields and the centrality and pT dependence of the suppression provide stringent constraints on theoretical models of suppression. Models incorporating initial-state gluon saturation or partonic energy loss in dense matter are largely consistent with observations. The pT-dependent suppression expected from models incorporating jet attenuation in cold nuclear matter or absorption of fragmentation hadrons is not observed. -- Flemming Videbaek Brookhaven National Laboratory Physics Department tlf 631-344-4106 fax 631-344-1334 e-mail: videbaek@bnl.gov
