Dear Collaborator You should have seen the announcement from Jens Jorgen that the ratio paper has been submitted. The last version is posted on the Brahms web publication page. Let me say a few words about the paper. The two main authors were Jens Jorgen, and Claus (who have done most of the analysis), and with many contributions from the paper committee that in addition consisted of Dieter, Michael, JH, Ian, Trine and Pawel. Many outside the group contributed via the list e-mails as you sure may have noticed. Due to concerns and questions on the data, the analysis were re-done last week by Claus and Ian and information of this pass is posted on http://www.nbi.dk/~bearden/Brahms/ratioAnalysis.html . Essential identical results were obtained, but yielded another data point included in fig 3 and 4. Concerns were raised within the committee and from others if the version posted to the collaboration was indeed ready for publication submission. A majority of the committee, though, expressed the opinion that the paper ought to be submitted before QM02 in order not to cause a large delay in submission, possible up to more than a month and a half. Based on this and some final editing efforts I agreed the paper could be submitted. I am aware that not everybody agrees with this decision and argued for additional discussion. I do though think for the physics message the paper is conveying, it is in an acceptable shape for submission. Let me finally say that I intent to have a discussion with the Institutional representatives of Brahms to solicit input on the process and timing of analysis reports and data discussions relative to the formation of the paper committee and drafting of future papers. I strongly feel we can improve on this and have data understood and accepted by the collaboration well before the completed final drafts are circulated. Best regards Flemming PS. In regard to the notes on missing conference proceedings, if people send me the FINAL submitted Version as postscript + pdf, these can be posted, but this step is needed. ---------------------------------------------------- Flemming Videbaek Physics Department Brookhaven National Laboratory tlf: 631-344-4106 fax 631-344-1334 e-mail: videbaek@bnl.gov
