FYI in regard to pp running.
- todays progress from our side.
a) tunes Inel timing. Inelastic ratea are 1-2K. They ought to be ~
20-40K at this years luminosity estimate. The machine
has still ways to go.
b) commisioned MRS trigger
- the initial rejection is very good; effeciency has to be
studied in more detail analysis data.
c) We will take data with the two inel trigger (scaledoneed) and the
MRS trigger.
- starting looking at the FS trigger; With some good luck we can
report progress tomorrow.

Hi all,
we made it - don't get too excited, it's just the pp commissioning phase
1 ;).
Since last night, once we set up the machine for collisions after the
maintenance yesterday, we are in "production mode" (whatever it means
:)). Today and thru the night we'll basically just refill and provide
collisions to experiments (while applying minor changes to the ramps).
Earlier this afternoon we moved the roman pots from the PP2PP experiment
into the beam pipe (just a tiny little bit!) for the first time while a
store was going on. No background, beam losses or any other disturbances
could be observed :). Tomorrow during the day we'll spent some time on
tune feedback and in general we'll continue to work on intensity/ramp
improvements. In addition, we'll measure polarization in RHIC at
injection and every 2 hours at store in every fill we keep. We will
limit fills to approx. 4 h (i.e. 3 pol. measurements per fill) or to an
intensity of > 1*10^12 per ring.
Polarized Protons: recent measurements in RHIC resulted in about 25% at
injection and about 20% in blue, <10% in yellow at store which was
decreasing by another factor of 2 during the store of 8 h. We'll
continue to work on polarization behind RHIC stores.
Westinghouse: brushes wear in slowly, it is likely that another
maintenance shutdown next week is NOT necessary.
For the time being there are no access requests (short CONTROLLED
accesses during the night are still possible!), the PHENIX access was
successful :) and a long shutdown next week seems not to be required.
However, we'll have a beam study period of 6 h on wed, Dec. 26, 8:00
-14:00. I'll keep you posted about any changes.
Have a nice weekend (and successful, last minute, christmas shopping!),
