If these activities are successful, we expect to start ramping the RHIC rings to design energies early next week, Mon Jul 9 or Tue Jul 10. Today's access and maintenance period will also allow experimental repair access (including PHENIX He bag work and PHOBOS magnet powering); we will return to full-time beam work later this evening and continue throughout the weekend. Beam activities have concentrated on transition-crossing work and acceleration cycles to 64 GeV/u (gamma=7) over the past several days. Blue beam is reliably being accelerated to this energy, while yellow beam is completely lost in the region of transition energy. We are also investigating logged instrument readbacks for the ramps of the past several days to develop a plan for yellow transition crossing success over the weekend. There is a moderate to high likelihood (depending on your level of optimism) that both rings will see beam return to 64 GeV/u over the weekend, with the focus remaining on instrumentation timing and cogging/synchro at that point. -Todd -- --------------+-----------------------------+----------------+----------------- Todd Satogata | BNL C-A Accelerator Physics | (631) 344-5826 | satogata@bnl.gov --------------+-----------------------------+----------------+-----------------
