I was advised Friday that RCF will have to move data from old tape format to new in HPSS, and was aksed what data might be deleted from the archive. Tthe previous format, so the risk in loosing data is higher.he packing density is higher than before. In general we have not stored much data on HPSS, apart from a number of final productions used for publications. There are a number of datasets i multiple version that could be deleted i.eDST class == ltr, gtr, dst. I definitely want to preserve the raw data-sets for another number of years. I attach a pdf file of the summary of files kept in HPSS. I think if we keep the latest files of ltr,gtr and dst we should be doing wel. To delete files we will have to update scripts for doing this, but it seems fairly simple. Please send me comments, if you are in disagreements to such plan. F. "Due to the fact that the old 9310 Powderhorn libraries will not be supported by the vendor beyond 2010, we have started to plan the copying of 9940B tape resident data to new LTO3 and LTO4 media.
