You shouldn't get the "greetings" when you pass the `-l' option to
"root" (and by extension "bratroot").

Looks like you have some old ROOT libraries in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH, as
suggested by Flemming.  Try with a clean LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
