   I did 
          cvs co brat

  but run into the same problem you have with autogen.

  So, I removed the versions of "brat, bdst, banapp, brag etc"
in my area and checked out fresh versions. 

brat> ./autogen
brat> ./configure
banapp> ./autogen
banapp> ./configure

bdst> ./autogen
bdst> ./configure --libdir=/direct/brahms+u/tigist/lib/bdst --includedir=/direct/brahms+u/tigist/include/bdst --bindir=/direct/brahms+u/tigist/bin --mandir=/direct/brahms+u/tigist/man --datadir=/direct/brahms+u/tigist/share

brag> ./autogen --with-cern-libdir=/opt/brahms/cern/pro/lib --with-cern-bindir=/opt/brahms/cern/pro/bin
brag> ./configure --with-cern-libdir=/opt/brahms/cern/pro/lib --with-cern-bindir=/opt/brahms/cern/pro/bin

Ignoring the previous problem, I went ahead with
		autogen
which failed with
		sanders_at_rcas0054:~/brat> autogen
		Can't locate object method "path" via package "Request" at /usr/ 
share/autoconf/Autom4te/C4che.pm line 69, <GEN1> line 111.
		aclocal: autom4te failed with exit status: 1

Have I missed a step?
