Hello. In RCF meeting yesterday, Platform (LSF company) is supposedly
interested to expand a licensing scheme for RHIC community. (They are
probably (rather) being paid with small licensing fees than begin
completely abandoned.) Although it is still early in the negotiation
and pricing (and the detail)is not set, if your institution is
interested, please let me know.

Experiment Liaisons,

As discussed in yesterday's Liaison Meeting, Platform is
tentatively proposing to extend a DOE wide LSF licensing scheme to
include collaborating institutions. If this were to happen, then
sites collaborating on RHIC experiments could get LSF licenses through
BNL, contacting our license server, and LSF questions or problems from
these sites would be funneled through BNL. In addition, if Platform
added their Multi-cluster option to the package, then the remote
clusters and the BNL clusters could share jobs.

As mentioned, these possibilities are still tentative and we have
no pricing, but Platform would like to get an idea of which sites
could potentially be involved in this extension of the BNL LSF pool
and, if available, an estimate of the number of potential licenses at
each site. If there is interest in such an arrangement with Platform,
I would appreciate getting a list of potential collaborating sites from
each of the experiments.

It is not clear how remote sites that collaborate with two or more
DOE sites would be handled in this extended licensing scheme, so, for
the moment, I would recommend ignoring such details.

		Thank you,
			Tom
