Cool! However, BRAT 2.5.4 isn't the `pro' release of BRAT - for it to
be so, we need a BRAT 2.6.0. The issue here is, that if someone comes
along and tags BRAT as `BRAT-2-5-5' then that will be the newest `new'
(and possibly `pro'), so to avoid that, we should have started a new
`new' branch before declaring the old branch as `pro' - just to not
confuse ourselves. I think I've documented that a couple of places
    before.

Why? The client library and headers are installed on the CAS/CRS
machines, so there should be no need install it ourselves.

Another good reason why we need a new `new' branch before releasing a
    `pro' version.

I have a question: Why do we have the directories

      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/bin
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/brat
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/brat/brat-13-Feb-2002
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/brat/new
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/brat/new_gcc304
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/brat/pro
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/crash
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/crash/new
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/lib
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new_gcc304
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/root
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/root/new
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/root/gcc304
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/root/pro
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/root/root_v3.03.00

I've made the subdirectory ~brahmlib/src for compiling the programs as
`brahmlib' and installation in `/afs/rhic/opt/brahms', and I think we
should use that rather than the AFS disk (which is really slow when
you do compiles). Also, if we can keep the AFS directory to an
    absolute minimum of

      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/bin
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/etc
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/lib
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/include
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/lib
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/sbin
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/pro/share
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/bin
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/etc
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/lib
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/include
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/lib
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/sbin
      /afs/rhic/opt/brahms/new/share

we can avoid a lot of confusion as to what is the `official'
software. I think we should _not_ have `official' installations for
more than one compiler per platform - which ever compiler we may
choose. If particular users what another compiler, they can do so
    themselves.

I'd like to ask who ever made all the `spurious' directories listed
above to remove them ASAP, so that we may avoid confusions.

    Yours,
