This is because CRASH was build and installed with the `new' tree in
the path. You see, the CRASH configuration script looks for
`brat-config' and uses the path to that program for it's internal
    executions of `bratmain'.

This is ofcourse an error and should be corrected. The problem is,
that you'll be executing the `pro' CRASH on `rcrsuser' and `rcas' but
will be executing the `new' BRAT on `rcrs' - not what is intended.
Sepcifially, it seems that there's a some odd things going with the
version numbers of the `pro' and `new' installations on
    `/afs/rhic/opt/brahms'.

    It's very bad.

Also, it seems to me, that the policy is that once a new BRAT, CRASH,
ladida is installed in the `pro' branch, a new development cycle
should be started, and that should be installed in the `new'
branch. That means BRAT should now have version number 2.4.0 (which it
doesn't). I'm sure I wrote an email on that subject once - let me
see if I can find - doh, no search engine ... :-(

Ah, here's something [1], but there's probably more somewhere as I
remember we had a discussion on this at some point.

    Yours,
