The file .idx is generated by LaTeX and then later converted to an .ind file. Hence, these files should not be in CVS, since they are generated. There maybe a problem in the Makefile.am that crashed the build. Currently, I'm in Germany, so I can't do much right now. I'll look at it when I get back to DK.
