    This is a very good idea.  The first thing I did when I saw your earlier
    posting was to check the BRAHMS
    web pages for guidance on version numbers.  When I couldn't find anything
    there, I started looking through the titles in the brahms-dev-l list.
    However, none of the messages with "version" in the subject line covered
    this particular topic.  There are now way too many messages to read through
    them all for this type of detail.
