It came to my attention for the second time that there is a large amount of large ROOT files created by the ntuple program kept in the operator account (~operator/ntuple/data (?)). This creates a small problem: these files are big, a new file is created for each run, the amount of disk space is finite and these files are never deleted. To state the obvious, with the current setup, the operator account will run out of disk space soon. When I first noticed this problem I asked the ntuple program authors to stop creating the ntuple files in the operator home directory, and put them elsewhere instead, for example, on the pii5 local scratch disk (18 Gbytes compared to ~5 Gbytes of free space on the opus disk, shared with the DAQ). They (the authors) did something, and I though they have fixed this problem. Now I see that they did NOT fix it. The ntuple root files are still created in the operator home directory and still never removed. Can Somebody Do Something About It (tm)? If nothing is done soon, the operator account quota will be exhausted and the home directory will become unwritable. The current quota situation can be seen using the "quota -v" command. -- Konstantin Olchanski Physics Department, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, New York olchansk@bnl.gov
