This is a request to people working in the counting house:

    - if there appears to be a problem with the computers, please do not
blindly reboot pii3 in hope that it will magically
      fix itself.

Rebooting pii3 disrupts work for people who are logged in to pii3,
disrupts the BRAHMS web server and the MySQL database server.

If there is a problem on pii3 that may (or may not) require a reboot,
it may or may not be fixed by rebooting. Some problems (i.e. dead disks
and dead AFS) are not fixable by rebooting pii3.

But you may be confident that if a problem exists,
it will come again, and again, and again, and
if I am not given a chance to see it and try to fix it, it will
not be fixed, and then we may as well run Windows and reboot our
      workstations every five minutes.

    - please DO make every attempt to contact me or Betty.

    - to contact me:
        1) call me in my office x3986
        2) send me an email
        3) page me (pager 8565), instructions on the HIRG phone list
        4) call me at home, leave message on answering machine.

    - if there is no email in my mailbox nor message on my answering
machine, is evidence that no attempt was made to contact me.
